Pump Princess

Posted at 12:01 am under Aging Gracefully, Family, Simple Pleasures

So I walked in from the Office tonight and MotherDear says she had to stop for gas on the way home from the Post Office for fear of running out.

j0434890.pngNow to the average person, a mere subject of the land, this wouldn’t raise an eyebrow. But MotherDear is the Pump Princess. She does not pump her own gas. Heavens, No!! That is the duty of HRH Dad.

So I’m running the scenarios through my head, wondering how she managed to keep her HRH Pump Princess Tiara on straight:

  1. There hasn’t been a Full Service Gas Station in the magical land of MotherDear in a squillion years
  2. Dad happened to be at The Swamp (my Office) this afternoon snooping checking on the fill dirt and grading progress
  3. I was at The Swamp, working
  4. Al was at The Swamp working on his Mustang he’s so darn proud of

I barely began running through the remaining options when she giggles (as only MotherDear can) and she says to me “I just said “You Hoo, young man!” to the nice young guy on the other side of the pump. And I told him “I never pump my own gas. Could you possibly help me, please?” and he came right over and pumped my gas for me.”

It must be wonderful to be a Princess.

You Hoo, Young Man? My brain is exploding. I wonder, who will inherit her crown?

lol! News flash . . . Sandy finally taught me how to pump my own gas TWO weeks ago!. I spilled gas on myself 20 years ago and have been paranoid about it since. Silly me! Although, I have never used the phrase “You Hoo”. I have always been more crafty, with ” this doesn’t seem to be working, am I doing this right?” I got many MILES out of that one!! File this one under,
    “You Hoo, Me Too!” #3

Wow. Neither of my grandmother’s pumped their own gas–around here you can still get a full service pump at BP.However, more recently (2 years ago) my grandfather passed away and my grandmother would insist that one of us grandchildren go with her and pump gas (I live 40 miles a way and a lot times it was me–the other two girls are in high school and college though they live down the road from her and my brothers live too far away.) Eentually my cousin taught her how, several times (at the new pumps where you get a discount with your grocery card). It took her over a year to “get it” and she would often try to finagle me into doing it–I took each opportunity to remind her how. She is now so proud of how she can pump gas for herself that she tells us every time she does it. :)

Pumping your own gas is not a practice from where I am. There are always gas station attendants to do that. Anyway, I am here to let you know I’ve a tag for you here. If you’re not into tags, that’ll be alright. I just thought of tagging interesting recent visitors in my blogs. Thanks! :)

My mother in law used to try that routine. I told my husband she needed to learn to pump her own gas cause he wasn’t available to do it for her all the time. He was glad to use me as an excuse to force her to lose her crown. She would still call for him to come over and fill up her car but most of the time he would tell her to do it herself and often stick to it. Now we are divorced. I haven’t thought about that in awhile. I bet he is back to babysitting his mother again.

Very good story! I never pump my own gas, will you believe it? Just never had to… :)

You’re tagged for the Book Meme! It’s an easy one! You don’t have to do it if you don’t want to… :)

That funny, my grandma is the same way. Whenever she visits we always have to go to the gas station with her and fill her tank for her.

I have a tag for you at my blog: http://innocentjoy.blogspot.com. Hope you can do it but if you’re not into tags then that’s alright. I just thought of tagging recent visitors to my blog. :)

MotherDear should move out here to Oregon, where it’s illegal to pump your own gas.
