Summer Time And A Glass Of Wine

Filed under Thought for the Day

Oh yeah, it’s good! Only problem is, I’m having it alone! Wish you all were here! It’s official, school’s out! Thomas finished up yesterday, and Kevin today! Kevin was so sad. The teacher gave all her kids a DVD with pictures of the whole class throughout the year. It really is nice. It’s something he will treasure when he is older. Tonight I watched him view it for the tenth time, and he looked so sad. I will have to put it away for him in a few days, and he will forget about it.

We had Thomas’ year end meeting on Wednesday. There were eleven team members, plus Jim and me. Apparently, Thomas has surprised everyone! In the past three to four weeks, he as made remarkable progress. They suggested to me that he may in fact be able to pass third grade MCAS next year. Wow! He has been drawing and drawing to the point that he is almost as good as Kevin was about a year ago. I woke up this morning to a wonderful artistic rendition of “Peter Pan”! I asked Kevin if he drew it and he said “no, Tommy did that”. All I could think of was that song “If You Believe In Miracles. . . ”

Jack is “still” a free boy. (for the next six months), then he is considered a “Man”. Wow, now that’s something to think about! We are going job hunting next week, and Jim has set up anger management counseling for him. He is starting to talk about going into the service.

Holly starts work next week at the recreation department as a camp counselor. She so needs to get out there. She has been home for three weeks, looking for a weekend job, and has gotten nothing promising. She is going to bike back and forth to work to save on gas money.

Jim is in Florida for a Marine Seminar with the guys from his initial platoon from Paris Island. (Work related).

Me, I’m tired, it’s been a long Spring, and I plan on just living in the moment, and enjoying this here glass of Merlot.

Miss, you all, let the Summer Games begin!

Loving Nursing!

Filed under Thought for the Day

Hello Sisterdears! It’s been a while since I’ve posted, but I’ve been pretty much involved with my new career! I LOVE MY NEW JOB! Don’t get me wrong, I have made mistakes every day, sometimes very overwhelming and some days I get out 2 hours late, but I really love it! It’s so rewarding. I just love taking care of the patients and they are so appreciative. Since the floor I’m on is a rehab floor, some of my patients I have for a couple of weeks so I really get to know them which is nice. I’ve had some really sad moments - Two of my patients have passed away, one of them just the other day and it hit me hard, mostly because he reminded me so much of Daddy - very sad. :( I’m also very excited. I spoke to the Director of Nurses and she switched my schedule so that I’ll do 3 12-hour shifts per week including 2 weekdays a week and every other weekend. Plus, I’ll only be working 36 hours and they pay me for 40 which is a bonus! She also told me I’ve been doing a great job which was really nice to hear! So hopefully I’ll still feel this way once I am on my own, probably within the next two weeks - I’ll keep you updated! Hopefully, all is well with my sisters :)! Love, SD2, a.k.a. EBH xoxoxo

Speaking of Flowers

Filed under Thought for the Day

OK - Without the hat… Although I like the other one better, because his smile was just at the moment he saw her….The smile shows his real character. He takes after his motherdear.

See the flowers she is holding; well sunny boy didn’t think it appropriate to get flowers or a corsage for his date. He said; “They agreed not too”. Mother dear thought otherwise!
I spent $ 18 on a plant to match her dress. And then I picked lilacs. Then I hand made a small bouquet. She didn’t think it corny when I handed them to her. Cus sunny boy wouldn’t! Her smile was priceless. Then sunny boy agreed with his mother, when she said; :They match pefect, thank you”!.

Dave Stanton Died April 26th

Filed under Thought for the Day

I just got an email from Sharon, she just found out, too. She heard it was an aneurysm, but said that her information was second hand. As I said to Sharon, even after his death ‘Marilyn’s family’ couldn’t find it in them to let me know he died. Unbelievable.

Rest in Peace, Dave.

This is a printer friendly version of an article from coloradoan.com

Article published May 8, 2008
David E. Stanton Sr. (1933-2008)
David E. Stanton Sr., of Green Valley, Ariz., died suddenly on April 26.

He was born in Winthrop, Mass., on August 14, 1933.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, a sister, and two grandsons.

He served in the U.S. Army as a medic during the Korean War.

After 20 years in the automobile industry, he relocated the family to Loveland, Colo., in 1975.

In 1999, he sold his building manufacturing company and retired to Green Valley.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; a brother, Norman Stanton, of Topsfield, Mass.; sons David Jr., of Windsor, Dan, of Wellington, and Don, of Steedman Mo.; daughters Jeannie Mock, of Eaton, Beverly Wood, of Converse Tex., and Janice Burnett, of Windsor; 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in Colorado at a later date.

Update: The official cause of death was cerebral hemorrhage. I emailed Bev to offer my condolences. We’ve had 2 quick emails back and forth. I always did like her; she was kind , funny and level-headed. Bev emailed the link to a memorial website, which I thought was very kind of her. I will not be leaving any messages.

I MADE IT!

Filed under Thought for the Day

Hello Sisterdears - Empress Big Hair here! My computer finally came around and with the help of Dutchess PMS, I was able to resign-in under my new address! Thank you DPMS :) I hope this will now enable me to comment on your blogs a little easier.

Well you’ve all heard by now - I’m officially employed. I start orientation on Monday and can’t wait for that first paycheck. Do you realize that its been well over 3 years since I got a paycheck? I’ve washed and ironed all my new scrubs and am currently going over some of the important nursing standards and my medication math to be sure I’m ready for my first day! Don’t get me wrong, I’m very nervous about getting started, but at the same time very anxious to start giving back the great care I received as a patient. Hopefully, I can bring some TLC and happiness to my patients. That’s my goal anyway!

I’m really looking forward to our Mother’s Day Weekend. Remember SD1, we’d love to have you join us if there is any way you can make that happen :) If not, we’ll be sure to take plenty of pictures to send you! I know we’re going to have a fabulous time - lots of wine drinking too! Only a little over a week to go - actually 8 sleeps, can’t wait.

Well, I hope you are all having a wonderful day! Ta-Ta - I mean Ya-Ya!! Love, SD2 a.k.a. EBH :)

Bye Bye WordPress, Hello Blogger!

Filed under Thought for the Day

Well, Mom is a tiny bit ticked. She upgraded her blog to WP 2.5 yesterday, with images glitches. Then she found an the Automatic updater plugin and tried it our blog with the same result, image glitches. So then she let Fantastico update our blog and now it’s totally corrupted.

Before she attempted it this morning, she had decided she’d give WordPress one more shot because she likes the themes better, it’s cleaner, etc. But if it didn’t work, she’d already made her mind to come back to Blogger, because the aggravation of WordPress is just not worth it.

So here we are. Again. Mom needs a massage!

If I want my dreams to come true, I musn’t oversleep

Filed under Cats, Thought for the Day

I apologise for the fuzziness of this “flashback” photo. It was taken in May 2004 with a particularly nasty camera which thankfully, I no longer have.

This photo shows my cat Gandalf (back row) and his 2 litter mates, Boo Boo (left) and Sarah (right). They loved this one shelf of that condo! They were only about 3-4 weeks old in this photo. It was not long after this that the three of them no longer all fit on one shelf.

The kittens did three things exceptionally well; they ate like piranhas, played hard and power napped!

They were a breath of sunshine. At the time I had had my Pekes for 14-15 years. I had just lost my baby boy Ching (right) and was about to lose my little girl Sha Na (left).

I thought I was rescuing them, but Gandalf and Grayson came into my life to help me say goodbye to Sha Na & Ching. As it turned out, it was the cats that rescued me!

The kittens have grown up. The cats don’t eat as ravenously and they aren’t playful as kittens, but they still power nap!

We could all take a lesson from the wise cats.
