Barb's life, in photographs

Black Friday

… or as I’ve decided to call it “Back Friday”, because that’s all I saw – people’s backs!

So. This was my first and last Black Friday. OMG! I cannot believe people do this every year! I went for one thing, and one thing only, that 19″ TV I’ve been looking for. Walmart had it in their sale flyer as available Today Only from 5-11am. So I arrived right at 5am and was absolutely amazed to see the parking lot completely FULL! I had to park in the restaurant’s parking lot across from Walmart.

I was pleasantly surprised to see plenty of carts. Unfortunately, the store was crammed full in every aisle except on the food side. You couldn’t take more than one step without stopping. Carts were overflowing. In fact many people had several carts. I finally made my way back to Electronics only to find the shelf empty. I asked an employee if they were out of them already. She explained that there was a line for a coupon to get them and pointed me in that direction. I figured they’d be out by the time I got to the front of the line, but guess what? I had my TV in my cart in about 2 minutes! Yay!

I went up to pay for it and was extremely happy to see no lines in the 3 Express Lanes for 5 items or less. I was actually back in my car with my little TV by 5:25am! Woo Hoo!

I looked back as I drove out of the parking lot. I still can’t imagine why people do that every year. And the Mall which I avoid every day of the year… what must that be like today? Wow.

I hope you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving. I sure did. Although I barely took any photos at all, unless you count the ones I took of my cats! It was a spectacularly gorgeous day and they all enjoyed having the windows open. In fact, all 3 of them somehow managed to slip out the front door for a few moments while I was gone to pick up my camera. When I saw the front door open a tiny bit it scared me to death, but they were in the shrubs against the house and I got them back in the house quickly. They got to smell some grass. It was great fun for them while it lasted.

I may do some painting today, or I may not. We’ll see how I feel later. I hope you have a nice, relaxing day with leftovers and pie!

Big Hugs ♥xo

  1. That’s a fabulous photo of your 3 boys. I adore it.

Re Black friday ~ I’ve never partaken, nor will ever partake. I dislike crowds of people pushing and shoving (even more now I’m temporarily on crutches) and I hate out and out materialism. Plus, if I’m honest ~ I’ve not been working for a while due to my leg so this Yuletide will be a very modest affair. But don’t feel sorry for me, I shall have my family and cats around me ~ and I shall feel the love. And that’s all I want! Just as well; LOL!

  2. Excellent! In at 5am and out by 5:25am. That has to be some sort of record! Hats off to you, Miss Barb!
Had we known it would be that easy, we would have given it a try.
Could not even imagine what you must have felt when you saw the door open! Glad the boys are safe. We love them like they are our own.
We’ll be putting up our exterior decorations today. Or maybe we should attempt the sales!

  5. I’ve never done Black Friday and don’t plan on it either. I don’t care what kind of sales are out there. Okay, I’ll admit it! I. Hate. To. Shop.

Glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We had a wonderful one too. We don’t have any pie left though. It went out the door with our guests. I gained a pound and that’s all I’m willing to gain. Darn.

Have a terrific day and weekend. Big hug and lots of scritches for the babies that got to go outside for a bit. :)

  9. I like the backs of the boys a lot better than the backs of the shoppers!

I don’t understand the whole attraction of going to stores at ridiculous hours of the morning with tons of other people jostling and pushing to get their hands on that “special buy”. I’d much rather sleep in and go without the crowds! Glad you were able to get the TV you wanted – it would have been terrible to go through all that and then NOT get one!

  10. We have a similar tradition here on Boxing Day – the sales. INSANE is the only way to describe them and having been once, I’d never do it again.

Yay for getting the new TV though! Totally worth it.

  12. I try to stay out of all stores on black Friday! It would scare me too if my babies went out the door.

  13. We don’t have any kind of sales like that, but I think it would be rather stressful.

Sounds like you had a lovely few days off, with lots of eating and relaxing. Poppy and I took it easy, and will consider getting the christmas shopping done next weekend,

  15. I love the photograph of your boys. I managed to stay out of the black Friday mess and wasn’t sorry a bit. It really is crazy.

Your floors in the above post are gorgeous! You are making so much progress!
