Barb's life, in photographs

Darks, whites or lights?

So. I wore a white and navy striped shirt yesterday. When I went to put in in the laundry basket I was once again torn – dark basket, white basket or colors? I mean I’ve only been doing laundry for close to 50 years. You’d think I would have resolved this by now!

So. It occurred to me that I should ask all you brilliant bloggers what you do.

So. What do you do?

  1. Since we wash every thing in warm , we do undies in one load, Tee Shirts and knits in one and Button up or dress shirts in another. So colors don’t matter to us.

  2. If it is mostly white, it goes with the lights. If it is mostly navy, it goes in with the dark clothes. And I almost always wash with cold water.

    Good luck. Big hugs…

  3. It would be in my dark pile. I would wash with cold water. Okay, that’s what I do. It’s been working.

    Have a terrific day. :)

  4. Okay Barb, I’m with you…. ahhhh, white or darks? I think I’ve put that sort of combo in both piles at some point or another. Maybe close your eyes and point to a pile, the one you’re pointing at wins that day!

    Happy Day! Brenda

  5. I wash in cold water with Tide Coldwater liquid detergent, so I’ll put it in either pile, as long as the colored pile doesn’t have any red stuff in it.

  6. I have several loads — towels only, jeans only, whites, meds, and darks…

  7. We have lots of shirts and T-shirts that have white stripes or backgrounds so we put them in the mixed whites basket. The real puzzle is then do we further separate the pink and white stripes from the royal and white stripes.

  8. Amanda has a black-and-white striped shirt that I have this same dilemma with and sometimes it goes in with one batch and sometimes it goes in with the other. How’s that for a non-definitive answer!?!

  9. I usually toss those things in a load all by themselves.

  11. Yep ~ I’ve pondered the same problem. What do I do? Wash with care (especially the first time) and never put tht item in with anything light in colour that I wouldn’t want spoiled! It’s a dilemma.

  12. We tend to do towels together, sheets together and then everything else together. Jeans get a special wash by themselves the first time, and then they have to share the wash with everybody else.

Never had a problem with any colours running or whites getting ruined yet.

  13. I would put it in with the light colors, use a Shout Color Catcher, and wash in cold. Catches any stray colors that might bleed into the wash water.

  14. Wash with cold and it won’t matter. That’s my motto. The only clothes I was in warm are hubby’s grubby, greasy work clothes. The rest is cold water and right into the dryer. Makes life so much easier!

  15. Mine would go in whichever load I had more space :)
Lights or darks… Probably not the whites just in case the navy would bleed…

  16. In with the darks. Actually I’ve just realised that I don’t separate out colours. So that’s no help at all.

  17. I usually ignore mine and go make something crafty. It cuts down on the stress of decision making.

  18. I use Shout “Color Catchers” and they mean you can wash anything with any color and it all gets clean. It grabs any color from the water…

  19. I usually put something like that with light colored towels. I know it sounds weird but I sort by lights/whites, dark blues/browns/blacks, reds/pinks, then towels/linens/iffy’s. It’s insane the amount of laundry we do over here with pre-teen girl!
