Weekend Snapshot: Phalaenopsis
I’ve really been missing my Orchids. I had about 3-1/2 dozen Orchids of all varieties in my lovely shaded yard in Florida. They only got dappled morning sun there. When I bought my home in Georgia I had to adopt out all my Orchids to a friend in Florida because my yard has too much sun from October-April.
I went shopping yesterday! I found this Beauty! Guess what’s on my desk at The Swamp now? Welcome home, you gorgeous thing!
The Garden Center also the most spectacular Lily, which has one of my all time favorite scents. It was a monumental effort, but I resisted.
Phalaenopsis (Blume 1825) is a genus of approximately 60 species of orchids (family Orchidaceae). The abbreviation in the horticultural trade is Phal.
The generic name means “Phalaen[a]-like” and is probably a reference to the genus Phalaena, the name given by Carolus Linnaeus to a group of large moths; the flowers of some species supposedly resemble moths in flight. For this reason, the species are sometimes called Moth orchids.

The very best job I could ever imagine is one that would pay me to think… and the currency would be wine!

Very, very pretty! They do look like moths in flight. I see angel wings also.
Bring the pretty Orchid home Mom, we haven’t pounced on an Orchid in a very long time.
My husband just brought me a orchid this week! I have been very busy taking pictures of it!
You should visit Singapore. Lots of orchids in the botanic garden.
Lovely white orchids

One thing I like about orchids is that they REALLY last a long time as compared to any other flowers
Have a good week ahead!
The orchids are beautiful. I love orchid but don’t have any at the moment. I have only been able to have them inside where I live. I don’t think very many orchids can grow outside where I live although there are a few varieties that grow in some of the woods near here. Thanks for your comment on my blog and that’s fantastic about your sister going back to school and finishing around the age of 50. I am so impressed by people who are able to go to school as adults, later in life.
you’re right about that. it’s gorgeous.
Morning Sniffles
I wish I could get an orchid. I’m scared I’ll murder it like I do all my other plants.

i have some orchids but for some reason or other, they have stopped flowering. perhaps the sunlightis too strong
What beautiful orchids!!! I’m jealous that you can actually care for them. I don’t think they’d last 24 hours at my place.
