Manic Monday: Heart ::Sigh::

Posted at 12:01 am under Manic Monday, Thought for the Day

I Heart Microsoft.

I did my due diligence. I did the research. I made my pros & cons lists. Ultimately I chose to self-host my web site with Wordpress.org for my blog. Then I searched high & low to find a theme that I liked. I installed it. I upgraded it once almost immediately, which was intensely stressful on my nerves and not at all uncomplicated. Now I have to upgrade the software for the second time in a month due to what Wordpress says is a high security issue. Multiply that times two as I also have a Cat Blog.

I’ll be honest with you.

I’m a tad ticked.

I’ve authored my commercial business web site for over 10 years with Microsoft FrontPage. The web site is content-rich for my specific industry. It’s much more complicated than a blog. It has many hundreds and hundreds of technical pages. But I must tell you, it’s much easier. It appeals to my logical mind. Upgrading is a breeze: Push a button.

This Wordpress self-hosting Installation & Upgrading is much too “technical-geeky”, which does not appeal to me. There should be some auto upgrade button. Somebody write that code. Please!

I may have to go back to Google Blogger or Wordpress.com and accept the loss of some control (and a tiny choice of themes & widgets) for the gain of less aggravation.

::Sigh::

I really Heart Microsoft.

    Welcome to the Manic Monday Minions, good ol´SPSH friend ;-)

    I can absolutely relate your WP-mess. I decide to move to my own domain several weeks ago, but the bl**dy blogspot-blog is still up and running because of that security issue and tons of updates.

    For my personal homepages (company, my son´s, the one I´m building up for my daughter (I´m pregnant) and my own little page I´m a huge fan of Macromedia Dreamweaver. WYSIWYG-editors rock :-)

    Happy MM!

    i have no earthly idea. i do have a dot com blog at muffin53.com which i use for paid posts but i don’t know how to do anything fancy on it. i use windows live writer to write the posts though because it is so much easier than trying to post a photo on wordpress. i hate wordpress. i had heard how wonderful it was but seriously, blogger is SO much easier…

    smiles, bee

    I feel for you. I hate trying to get everything to work on some of these programs you can get. I don’t have the time or the desire to sit down and read through EVERYTHING. I want it to be easy! I suppose if I had a business where I needed to run a website on my own I would be more willing to try something new. Good luck and happy MM

    Sorry you’re having trouble. I stay with Wordpress and Blogger (I have a few blogs) because I want to avoid problems…but don’t worry you’ll work it out! :)

    I’m a Wordpress failure. Thank goodness my husband is a techie, or I’d never have a website.

    This is interesting as I HATE Microsoft passionately and for good reason–I deal with a lot of people with broken sites etc. BECAUSE of Microsoft. Anyway, yes, recently Wordpress has had some issues and I am not as happy as I have been with them while dealing with them for years. I would wait to upgrade though. The “high security” issues are not that big a deal from what I have rea and I had issues with plugins when I did upgrade–so much that I lost a whole blog. I would wait for the next release before upgrading. If you are interested I would be glad to help you with the server side stuff–it is what I do all the time and one more would not be a huge deal (I( have a server full of 12 blogs I run for different peopel as well as 3 that are on their own servers, one more wouldn’t be as much headache for me since I do that stuff all the time as it would be for you. Don’t feel bad if you need to turn me down, just letting you know that I am willing.

    I’ve toyed with using wordpress… just exploring my options. We’ll see what the future brings!

    I’m all for easy myself so I know better than trying what you are doing. I’d make a mess of it. Great post and thanks for the tip. I’ll follow your wise advice. Have a great MM. :)

    I am just slightly lossed at what you are writing about! I am a really slow blog learner, mostly I think because of my slow dial-up. It’s really hard to do anything to my blog because of that. Good luck.

    There are a lot of “what you is what you get” software now for website development…and yes Microsoft FrontPage is one of them…yet, you can google for help if you want…there are many sites dedicated to providing HTML tutorials… ;)

    You’ll get an amen from this corner. I also use WordPress, and seeing these emergency security updates does nothing for my confidence in the software. For awhile, I was considering a change to Moveable Type, but inertia got me first…

    Lucky for me I was always too lazy to switch from Blogger.

    This is why I have a dear friend do all this for me…..I would be completely exasperated with it all!!! Just so you know though…..I absolutely love the new look!!!

    I tried Wordpress and Movable Type but went back to Blogger. It’s simple to use and they seem to be doing more about adding new features again. I find I can make all kinds of changes to Blogger, I just look for a way of doing it at sites like BlogU where someone else has already done the legwork for me.

    I’ve heard so many things about WordPress that would make me terrified of using them but I also see so many cool features that they have that Blogger doesn’t that it almost seems like it would be worth it to go through the stress. Maybe someday … maybe not!

    Thank you for stopping by my blog yesterday, I appreciate the visit and the comment!
