PhotoHunt: Narrow

Posted at 12:01 am under Photo Hunt

photohunter7iq.pngThis week’s Photo Hunter Theme is Narrow.

Orchids are my all-time favorites. I’ll let you in on a little secret: They are much easier to grow than most people would ever believe! Dare to buy some.

Orchids are lovely, delicate, elegant and vibrant. When they are blooming… simply exquisite!

Got Cats? Here’s another secret: Not so much cat-proof. When pounced upon, the spikes will break. Ask me how I know this.

  4. Hootin' Annion 02 Feb 2008 at 6:18 am 4

I’ve had some…..but they last a long time, then tend to ‘rot out’ near the potting mixture….dunno what I do wrong.

    Your’s are gorgeous.

Drop by and view my photo hunt if you can find time! Love to have you leave me a comment. Happy weekend to you.

  9. Daisyon 02 Feb 2008 at 6:46 am 9

Your orchids are so beautiful! We do have one orchid plant and it is growing well. But it has not bloomed again since we first got it!

  10. Kimmyon 02 Feb 2008 at 6:48 am 10

Nice orchids you got there. Thanks for the visit.

  11. Dragonheart & Merlinon 02 Feb 2008 at 6:48 am 11

Those are lovely flowers! Both of our humans have “black” thumbs and kill anything they try to grow (except cat grass) so we don’t have any plants inside.

What beautiful flowers. Makes me want spring to come soon. I love flowers, just way too cold here right now to grow any.

  18. eastcoastlifeon 02 Feb 2008 at 7:33 am 18

Your orchid plants are healthy and the flowers are gorgeous! Singapore exports lots of orchids each year.

  19. Criz Laion 02 Feb 2008 at 7:57 am 19

Wow…I’m impressed on how you manage to keep the orchid so beautiful. Thumbs up! I have many in my garden too and I have been using charcoal as the “soil” all the time and it works well for me.

If you have the time, do check out my another interpretation here

  20. napaboaniyaon 02 Feb 2008 at 8:13 am 20

You sure have a pretty green thumb :) your orchids are looking great. I love orchids, they’re also my country’s national flower.

  21. archiearchiveon 02 Feb 2008 at 8:16 am 21

Great photo and great horticulture. Do you have an orchid orchard?

  22. Rajsonon 02 Feb 2008 at 8:37 am 22

I also love orchids! I have always at least one plant.
Thank you for visiting me. Happy weekend!

    Beautiful shot!

    Happy weekend!

  24. Andréeon 02 Feb 2008 at 8:55 am 24

You answered my cat question before I even asked it! With 7 little monsters, I have never had a chance of keeping anything green alive. But thank goodness I have photos such as yours to look at!

  25. ellen bon 02 Feb 2008 at 9:00 am 25

    Beautiful…

  26. mouseyon 02 Feb 2008 at 9:01 am 26

    orchids are lovely as ever

  27. Randion 02 Feb 2008 at 9:13 am 27

    Good use of the theme!
I love orchids - but unfortunately they don´t love me.

  28. A.on 02 Feb 2008 at 9:24 am 28

Beautiful flowers! I tried once to grow them , without any noticeable success. Anyway if they are sensitive to attention from cats, perhaps it’s just as well…

  29. Carveron 02 Feb 2008 at 9:29 am 29

I love orchids too. Great shot and post for the narrow theme.

  30. gennyon 02 Feb 2008 at 9:29 am 30

  32. Alasandraon 02 Feb 2008 at 10:14 am 32

I love orchids you have inspired me to to buy one. Keep your fingers crossed that the cats will leave it alone and that I can keep it alive.

  33. Utah Mommyon 02 Feb 2008 at 10:35 am 33

  34. sarge charlieon 02 Feb 2008 at 10:37 am 34

I love flowers, I must be an old softy, we raised orchids for a long time until we became snow birds, hard to move them back and forth.

  35. Dragonstaron 02 Feb 2008 at 11:57 am 35

Those are so delicate. Are they scented? Very little chance for me - two cats and a hubby with hay-fever, so no flowers in the house.

  36. rachon 02 Feb 2008 at 12:00 pm 36

    They’re really pretty :-)

  37. Gattinaon 02 Feb 2008 at 12:28 pm 37

  39. Claudiaon 02 Feb 2008 at 2:13 pm 39

I got my first one last year, but it hasn’t yet come back.
I do see a new shoot starting out under a leaf. : )

  40. Michelle Johnsonon 02 Feb 2008 at 2:41 pm 40

Thanks for stopping by my blog today. Your orchids are beautiful. You have taken some time and patience with them. But, something tells me that your cats use them as a playtoy. Personally, I don’t have a greenthumb. Whatever I try to grow, dies. Have a nice weekend. Happy Photo Hunting~

  41. Annaon 02 Feb 2008 at 2:58 pm 41

  43. Lindaon 02 Feb 2008 at 5:28 pm 43

They are beautiful!! My cats would definitely break them! My narrow entry is up at http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/prodoceo/472940/

    Have a great weekend!

  44. Rebeccaon 02 Feb 2008 at 5:28 pm 44

    Those are gorgeous!

  45. Debon 02 Feb 2008 at 6:43 pm 45

What a great take on “narrow”! And beautiful pictures of beautiful flowers. Maybe I’ll give them a try one day. I’ve always assumed they’d be difficult to grow!

    Thanks for the visit!

  46. mistyeizon 02 Feb 2008 at 7:19 pm 46

gorgeous flowers!! my mum loves orchids too. she’s got a whole orchard full of it and i have heard that they are pretty hardy plants so since i’ve got ‘blue’ fingers [nothing can survive when i plants them!!], i might just give this a shot. :)

  47. tokenhippygirlon 02 Feb 2008 at 8:23 pm 47

Those are lovely. If they were mine they’d be brown! LOL Happy hunting!

  48. mixednutson 02 Feb 2008 at 9:33 pm 48

It seems like you like wine so come see my photo hunt entry. Happy weekend.

  49. Jennifer in ORon 03 Feb 2008 at 12:01 am 49

Beautiful photo; I had orchids in my wedding bouquet. Great site name; I will think for wine, too!

  50. MoMoon 03 Feb 2008 at 12:03 am 50

Hi, this is Momo cat’s SS here. I wonder if you have tried MOMO Pinot Noir from Marlborough, New Zealand. I know zilch about wine; my only interest in this wine is because it’s taken on my kitty’s name :)

I also have quite a few orchids in my back garden and I must agree with you that they are pretty hardy plants.

  51. Richardon 03 Feb 2008 at 6:14 am 51

I love Orchids. Those are beautiful. I keep a water bottle around just to spray the cat when he gets near the plants, but I can see how that would be difficult with these.

  52. Rach (Heart of Rachel)on 04 Feb 2008 at 7:25 am 52

They are beautiful. We have orchids too and it’s always rewarding to see them in bloom.

  53. heatheron 04 Feb 2008 at 10:41 am 53

Those are so beautiful! Yeah, cats and orchids would be bad.

  54. delishon 04 Feb 2008 at 12:53 pm 54

good thing you have a green thumb… had that been ours, it’d have beed dead by now :D
